CARL SINCLAIR-WALKER v ALERT MONITORING OTAGO (1994) LIMITED
Carl Sinclair-Walker, a patrol officer, brought a personal grievance for unjustified dismissal against his employer, Alert Monitoring Otago (1994) Limited, which operated a security business. The Authority upheld the grievance and later fixed costs, and the company challenged the substantive determination in the Employment Court. That challenge ended in a consent judgment after a judicial settlement conference: the Authority's determination was set aside except for the penalty it imposed, and the terms of settlement were kept confidential.
